We line up for a ticket or a chance
We crowd to get to where the dice are thrown
We pull upon the handle in a trance
True reasons for this madness left unknown.
If questioned we will give the story thus
“We do it for the thrill and for the fun,
It's harmless entertainment – why the fuss?”
And then continue gambling 'til we're done.
We do not seem to understand what makes
Us play until we've been completely skinned
What inner craving falsely by this takes
Our common sense and throws it to the wind?
If we reject the only hope that's true
Some vain and foolish hope will have to do.
