Helaman 5:12

Helaman 5:12
And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.

Sonnet 489  Helaman 5:12

There is no place on earth to build that’s right
To beat the power of wind and wave and storm
No mix of man-made concrete has the might
To save against what nature can perform.

And even sun and water wear out stone
And granite mountains wash away at last
This world cannot be permanency prone
With so much vigour in destructive blast.

And molten white hot lava at the core
Unstable as the water in the foam
That beats against the ocean’s ragged shore
Is threat’ning any time to melt this home.

Don’t build your dreams upon this earthy tent
Foundations that endure are heaven sent.
