Malachi 3:8-10

Malachi 3:8-10
8 ¶Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

Sonnet 712 Malachi 3:8-10

In law the punishment is extra strong
And earns another measure of disgust
If someone's theft or hurt or harm or wrong
Is classified in crimes as “breach of trust”.

That's when we  have the care and keeping of
Something for someone else in our affairs
And we betray their confidence and love
By taking for ourselves what's really theirs.

And most of us would understand this end
And never want to be among the cursed
Who cheat or hurt their very trusting friend
Those sorts we number as the very worst.

Yet everything we have is as a trust
And God asks only that we share a crust.
