Woe unto them
that are wise
in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!
Sonnet
706 Isaiah 5:20
Like
toddlers out in traffic we cavort
In
constant mortal danger unobservedOur safety measures always falling short
Unless we take direction gladly served.
There's two great dangers blind us on the road
The first, that devil monster blowing smoke
Befuddlement his navigation mode
He wants to blind, to bind, and even choke.
But even worse, perhaps, is self defeat
The wilful blindness of the proud and vain
The child who thinks he's smart about the street
And holds all wise correction in disdain.
But God provides a wise and prudent way
For everyone who chooses to obey.
