Isaiah 29:13-14

Isaiah 29:13-14
13 ¶Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

Sonnet 707 Isaiah 29:13-14

I would not dwell upon the reasons why
Or vanity of lips and mouths of men
Or darkness even of the noonday sky
To those whose hearts have lost what should have been.

Instead I marvel at what is restored
What wisdom, work and wonderment is come
This great and awesome undeserved reward
Of infinite from out a finite sum.

I revel in the revelations won
I marvel in the miracles attained
I tremble in the temples of the Son
I preach of prophets prayerfully sustained.

All this will end the wisdom of the wise
As Israel gathers to receive its Prize.
