Genesis 1:26-27 (#3)

Genesis 1:26-27
26 ¶And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Sonnet 684 Genesis 1:26-27 (#3)
by Tom Matkin

There are some scary animals at large
The jungle cats, the rhinos and the like
And whales as big as almost any barge
And sharks and snakes with venom in their strike.

But nothing else is dominant like man
Who has a way with weapons unsurpassed
And who by dint of following a plan
Subdues all other species first to last.

So nothing really challenges man's place
Nor could it since God planned it out that way
It suits His purpose for the human race
To have this gift so agency's in play.

So being unafraid of any other
Has left man free to terrify his brother.
