Sonnet
693 Exodus 20:3-17 (#5) Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
And
I thank heaven for the Sabbath day
A
challenge for me one day of the week
To
use the time in such proper way
To
make it holy, restful and unique.
So
many now will work or play at will
Or
shop or do their housework just as rote
And
seldom even think to try to fill
The
day with anything of worthy note.
And
so this gift of glory goes unclaimed
And
lost to legions who by NFL
Or
beach or such distractions surely framed
Their
narrow reach to things terrestrial.
Please
make you sign of faith by Sabbath days
That
celebrate and bless in holy ways.
