Malachi 4:5-6 #2

Sonnet 750 Malachi 4:5-6 #2

Could simple curiosity explain
This yearning to complete my family tree
To fill in all the links that make the chain
Of life that led, at last, to little me?

These mysteries and challenges pertain
To wrack me with this awful need to know
What is it that I hope to find or gain
Why is it that I work this puzzle so?

There's more than just the finding, I declare
There's something so exquisite with this pain
It's how my heart has softened through this care
A gift of love I almost can't contain.

For as I search and widen out my scope
Somehow my loss is overcome by hope.
